How Does Your Garden Grow? (10:00 am - 12:30 - noon)

Spring is the perfect time to enjoy gardening.  Come and learn techniques for gardening despite living with vision loss.


Each participant in this free program will learn basic gardening techniques and will also plant their own small herb container garden, which they will be able to take home.  A light lunch will be provided.

 




Diabetes Education Group (1:00 pm - 2:30 pm)
Our Diabetes Education Group meets monthly and features speakers and presentations related to vision loss and diabetes.  Meetings are held at INSIGHT and are open to the public.

INSIGHT Book Club (10:00 am - 12:00 - noon)

Join our Book Club for fun and interesting conversation about popular titles.  The club is open to anyone who is blind or visually impaired and registered with Talking Books Plus.


At this week's meeting the group will be discussing Caleb's Crossing by Geraldine Brooks. The book is provided on tape to all group members prior to the meeting.  The group meets at INSIGHT, 43 Jefferson Blvd in Warwick.




Informational Open House (1:00 pm - 2:00 pm)

Join us for our monthly informational open house where you can meet our staff, tour our facility, and learn more about our programs and services.


 

The open houses are held from 1PM - 2PM on the second and fourth Friday of each month.  The events are open to anyone who would like to learn more about INSIGHT incuding people living with vision loss, family, friends, and others in the community. As this is a walking tour, please let us know if you have mobility issues so that we can make arrangements to accomodate your needs. Around The World In 120 Minutes (12:00 - noon - 2:30 pm)

There are a lot of travel options for people living with vision loss.  Come learn how easy it is for people living with vision loss to travel.


This free program will provide some helpful hints on how to make travel arrangements, prepare in advance for obstacles you might encounter, and enjoy the benefits of travelling.  A light lunch will be served.

Macular Degeneration Symposium (1:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

The Ocean State Center for Independent Living with support from the RI Foundation, INSIGHT, and RI State Services for the Blind will host and event focused on Macular Degeneration on May 31st.

The Ocean State Center for Independent Living (OSCIL), with support from the Rhode Island Foundation, INSIGHT and Rhode State Services for the Blind, will host an event focused on macular degeneration on Thursday, May 31st from 1PM – 4:30 PM at the Radisson Airport Hotel in Warwick.


 

The event will begin at 1PM with a vendor and agency fair featuring more than a dozen low vision technology dealers including nonprofit organizations who provide services for people living with vision loss.
Presentations will follow with ophthalmologist Dr. Harold Woodcome leading a panel discussion about macular degeneration and the latest in treatment news. The panel will include several local eye care professionals. After the panel there will be an opportunity for those in attendance to talk with the panelists in small discussion groups.
Pre-registration is required. For more information, and to register for the event, please contact OSCIL at (401) 738-1013 x 13 and speak with Sue. The fee for the event is $20 per person, $35 for professionals. Along with the vendor fair and panel discussion there will also be a dessert buffet and free door prizes. Space is limited.
