Our diabetic outreach and education program promotes healthy lifestyles for people who are blind or visually impaired and need to learn adaptive techniques for managing their diabetic conditions. We have a certified diabetic educator who works with people by using devices such as talking glucometers to test blood sugar levels and magnifiers to measure insulin for injections. The program encourages people to make better food choices, monitor weight control, exercise and stay active, take mediation on a timely basis and reduce health risks to maintain healthy sugar levels, all important factors for those living with diabetes.
Besides one on one counseling, we also host a monthly workshop series that features presentations on topics related to diabetes. The presentations are free, open to the public, and held at INSIGHT on the first Tuesday of every month from 1PM - 2:30PM.
