Groups & Peer Support

Meeting and getting to know others with a visual impairment is one of the most important and helpful things you can do. If you are new to living with a loss of vision, learning that you are not alone and that others have overcome your challenges is incredibly empowering. For those who have been living with a visual impairment for a while, sharing your knowledge and experiences is a great help to others and will help motivate them to continue on their journey.

VISION Groups

VISION (Visual Impairment Support, Information, Opportunities, and News) is an open small group meeting for anyone with a visual impairment and family members, caregivers, and friends. The groups meet in several locations throughout the state each month and are ideal for people new to living with a visual impairment.

IN-SIGHT staff members facilitate the meetings, encouraging the participants to share their stories, ask questions, provide support, and learn from each other. Click here for our calendar of events, which includes a listing of upcoming VISION Groups.

Positive Outlook

This unique monthly group is for people living with vision loss. It is the perfect group experience if you seek peer support and answers to your questions. It is highly recommended that you attend a VISION group before attending this group. This group meets once per month at IN-SIGHT. For more information, fill out the contact form below.

Yoga Workshops

These free one-hour workshops are held at IN-SIGHT. Everyone follows along at their own pace and comfort. This group is perfect for beginners and folks with some Yoga experience. A Yoga mat is provided to each participant at no charge thanks to grants from the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation and BankNewport. For more information, fill out the contact form below.

Book Club

Our lively monthly book discussion group meets at IN-SIGHT on the third Friday of every month from 10 AM to 12 PM. The book to be discussed each month is chosen in advance by the group members, and all of the selected titles are available for free through the NLS Talking Books program. For more information, fill out the contact form below.

Caregivers Connect

Facilitated by IN-SIGHT’s social worker, Caregivers Connect is a safe place for family members, friends, and caregivers to discuss the stressors, challenges, and rewards of supporting an adult who is living with a visual impairment.

The group meets once per month and primarily features an open-topic format, providing ample opportunity to share stories and seek information and support. At times, there may also be a specific topic that the group has decided they would like to focus on for a part of the meeting.
